So what’s the point of my blog?

Where I’m coming from…

Yes this is principally a food and nutrition blog, but you shouldn’t be alarmed if I explore some of my other passions. For instance I love nail varnish and all things shiny. And as anyone who has lived in Brixton for as long as I have, over 12 years, it’s impossible not to passionately love the place, it’s people and community. It’s a constant source of pleasure, hope, amazement, and sometimes frustration too!

Due to chronic illness, my diet is severely medically restricted and I live on benefits because I am unable to work full time. So a lot of time is spent figuring out two things. What can I actually eat, without making myself as sick as a dog? And how I can do this as economically as possible? Without breaking the bank!

Where I am going to…

So, yes, although in my day to day life I may have to navigate my way through a challenging set of circumstances, I don’t for one second want you to think that this is the only, or even the most notable thing about me! Quite the opposite in fact, I’ve had to learn a lot, and have met a lot of interesting people along the way, and I want to share my experiences with you, the highs as well as the lows.

I’m not saying I’ve totally mastered it, and I don’t deny that sometimes it’s tough; but there have been some great moments, like when I’ve cracked a recipe, ventured into a new shop for some unknown ingredients, and invented (maybe by accident!) some new mind-blowing flavour combinations.

So this blog is about my journey, it’s about food and words, and it’s about letting you get to know me in the same way you would if I invited you for dinner at my house!

So trust me, if we meet, I’ll feed you something fodmap friendly that didn’t cost at a lot. We can simply enjoy it and share the story behind how I made it, and we can both ignore the washing up! I’ll leave til tomorrow so we can chat instead.

The only reason I tell you to take your shoes off at the door in my house is so you can put your feet up on my sofa. Coming from Belfast and living in Brixton, hospitality is important to me and I want my blog to represent that about me and welcome you in.

I guess you could call me an ‘unwellness’ blogger so if you’re bored of holier than thou attitudes to food, eating or health, enjoy a lack of lectures, hopeless dedication to slow cookers and an abundance of recipes, tips and thoughts… welcome to my new blog.

One more thing you should know straight away!

Now… having said all this, you’ll notice, that unlike some other blogs, that focus on being slick, and perfect, and flaunt lifestyle photography at every opportunity, there are no pictures of me! It’s not that I am shy, but it is deliberate. I lead a secret life as a mystery reviewer and shopper, and I know that I can do a much better job when people don’t know what I look like! People have always valued me for my straight talking honesty.

So on that note, drop me a line if you’d like me to come and test and review your restaurant or shop, try out your new products, or work up some new recipes for you.
